Network design
If you own more than one computer, you have probably
thought about how great it would be if your computers could
talk to each other. With your computers connected, you could:
- Share a single printer between computers
- Share a single Internet connection among all the
computers in your home or office
- Access shared files such as photographs, MP3s,
spreadsheets and documents on any computer in the house
- Play games that allow multiple users at different
computers
- Send the output of a device like a DVD player or Web cam
to your other computers
There are two options for home/office networking
- Wired
- Wireless
Wired networking.
This can be through specialist Ethernet cabling at speeds of
10/100/1000 Mbps, or through your existing mains wiring using
special adapters at a speed of 14Mbps.
Wireless networking
This works on a similar principle to cordless house phones
where the data is sent through the air to each machine on the
network at speeds of 11/22/54 Mbps
